Vopak Terminal Corpus Christi Pipeline System

Vopak Terminal Corpus Christi Pipeline System

Portland, TX

Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV), a partnership between ExxonMobil and Sabic built a 1.8 million metric ton ethane cracker and polyethylene/monoethylene glycol manufacturing facility near Corpus Christi in Portland, TX.

The project required pipelines and fiber optics from the GCVC manufacturing facility to a new liquid terminal storage owned and operated by Vopak Americas and from the Vopak terminal to the dock loading facilities for loading the liquid products onto ships and barges.

Flint provided project management, engineering, procurement, environmental permitting, and construction services for a complex pipeline corridor system consisting of stainless steel, carbon steel, and HDPE pipelines along with fiber optics connecting the GCGV manufacturing facility to the Vopak terminal and from the Vopak terminal to the dock.

Other services performed included integrity management, commissioning, check-out, and start-up support for the Vopak terminal and pipeline systems. In addition, for the 12” MEG stainless steel pipeline, the initial Integrity Assessment was also performed with an In-Line Inspection (ILI).

Key Features or Awards
Pipeline length is 4 miles to the terminal from the GCVC manufacturing facility and 0.5 miles from the Vopak terminal to the dock. The following five (5) pipelines along with two (2) fiber optic lines were installed in a shared congested corridor from the GCVC manufacturing facility to the Vopak terminal and from the Vopak terminal to the dock with both pipeline corridors eventually overlapping, creating a shared fourteen (14) pipeline/fiber optic congested corridor for a considerable distance:

– 4.5 miles of Mono-Ethylene Glycol (MEG) 12” 304L stainless steel epoxy coated pipeline
– 4.5 miles of Pyrolysis Gasoline (Pygas) 4” carbon steel epoxy coated pipeline
– 4.5 miles of Sulfidic Caustic 4” carbon steel epoxy coated pipeline
– 4.5 miles of Crude Butadiene (C4) 4” carbon steel epoxy coated pipeline
– 4.5 miles of Process Water 24” HDPE pipeline with outflow from the GCVC manufacturing facility to the Portland side of the Corpus Christi bay installed to a 50’ water depth.
– Ten (10) associated HDDs with many of them being bundled pipeline/fiber installations
